support, empowerment & guidance since 2009
My Birth Doula support is designed to support you and your partner feel supported through the rest of your pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience. With the help of an experienced doula, research shows that people who use a birth doula are: less likely to need Pitocin, less likely to have an unplanned cesarean birth, less likely to use pain medication, and more likely to rate their childbirth experience positively.

Every birth is unique and different in its own way, yet there is an element to each birth that remains consistent - birth is full of intense sensations and how we respond to those sensations can play a big role in our birth experience. Doula support can help you gather your "tools" for coping with those big sensations and improve your overall birthing experience, regardless of which tools you choose to utilize.

Some of the comfort measures I love to for pregnancy & labor include (but are not limited to):
Hydrotherapy: use of hot water for comfort in labor - one of my most often utilized comfort measures.
Relaxation: gentle cues to reach deep relaxation in birth: complementary guided relaxation downloads provided to all doula clients. I am also a HelloBirth Hypnobirthing Instructor; Hypnobabies trained, Calm Birth and Blissborn experienced doula.
Spinning Babies: therapeutic positioning and movement for comfort and progress in pregnancy, labor and delivery. Spinning Babies is a physiological approach to preparing for and caring for birth, I am excited to have trained with the creator of this incredible tool that can be utilized starting in early pregnancy.
Breathwork: using the breath as a vehicle of release in pregnancy and each phase of labor. The use of
breathing techniques and focusing your attention on your breath may activate mental processes in your brain that make labor sensations more manageable and promote relaxation.
Massage: physically working muscles at their origin to increase blood flow and relaxation can significantly reduce pain (especially in the back, legs and joints), relieve muscle aches, help with circulation, reduce swelling, reduce muscle tension, improve flexibility, and reduce anxiety.
Aromatherapy: the use of therapeutic grade essential oils are known to help ease promote relaxation and bring positive sensations to the process of labor and birth. For those choosing a hospital birth, essential oils have the power to transform a sterile, cold, hospital room into an inviting and cozy space.
Rebozo: a Rebozo is a special woven cloth, woven by indigenous weavers generation after generation. The Rebozo is a cultural emblem as well as an artifact of women’s ceremony and daily life. The beautiful traditions of using an authentic Mexican Rebozo are handed down from mother to daughter and midwife to midwife which can help provide comfort in pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
TENS units: short for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, has been used to relieve pain for a variety of conditions since the 70's, specifically things like menstrual cramps, arthritis, and other chronic pain conditions. In labor, a TENS unit can be used as a non-pharmacological way to help manage discomfort in your upper and lower back.
Acupressure: based on the principles of acupuncture, which is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It involves the application of pressure to specific points on the body. Activating trigger points in the energetic meridian channels in the body can be used for natural induction, labor progress and comfort.
